When it comes to paternity, there are a number of ways that you may legally become the father of a child. For example, paternity could be established by the fact that you were married to the mother of a child at the time of his or her birth or by signing an Acknowledgement of Paternity form. However, you may wish to challenge this form at some point and if you live in Belleville, or another part of Illinois, it is vital to understand where the laws in this state stand.

According to the Illinois General Assembly, you may be able to challenge an Acknowledgement of Paternity in court, if certain conditions are met. If you signed the form under duress, believe there are factual mistakes on the form or have evidence of fraud, you can challenge the form. However, the burden of proof will be upon you, so it is important to be prepared. If you do decide to challenge a paternity form, your legal responsibilities will remain in place until the court orders otherwise.

From child support to spending time with a child, paternity can be very important for both parents and children as well. Unfortunately, paternity fraud and other unacceptable problems can make daily life complicated. If you are facing any of these matters personally, it is critical to work toward a positive outcome and be aware of your rights.

This post was compiled to provide helpful information on paternity forms and is not to be taken as legal advice.
