Illinois families can benefit from online parenting classes

Many of the decisions that parents make during the divorce process are based on the best interests of the child. However, children can still be confronted by a huge number of practical and emotional difficulties as a result of divorce. That is why Illinois parents are encouraged to educate themselves about the impact that divorce can have on their kids, and approach child custody and visitation arrangements accordingly.

In explaining the benefits of online co-parenting courses for parents approaching divorce, a University of Illinois researcher noted that parents’ inability to resolve conflicts and work together can have a negative impact on children’s behavior and overall adjustment. Consequently, a review recently published in the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage looked at the qualities of online parenting courses that are believed to be the most beneficial to parents and their kids.

Some of the qualities that highly effective courses exhibit include a concentration on adult as well as child development and adjustment. Researchers claim that a program should also present parents with information regarding court definitions and policies, in addition to co-parenting techniques. Issues such as substance abuse and domestic violence should be addressed too. And according to the study results, course participants also responded positively to active instructional techniques.

Given that many Illinois parents seeking divorce are expected to participate in co-parenting classes, it can be helpful to consider the type of course that may best serve the needs of one’s family. An experienced attorney can also help parents navigate the divorce process in a way that is constructive and beneficial to the entire family.
