When parents separate, they may face a plethora of obstacles, such as court-related stress and worries related to child support. However, child custody matters can be particularly emotional and challenging for some parents in Belleville, and across the state of Illinois. Unfortunately, custody disputes can be dramatic and even deadly, in some cases, which highlights how pivotal it is for parents to be prepared and handle these matters appropriately.
A 29-year-old man was recently shot to death during a custody swap in Tennessee. According to reports, the man was meeting his former wife and her current fiance, an off-duty law enforcement official, when he was allegedly shot by the woman's fiance.
Authorities say that the off-duty officer was present to witness the swap and that a firearm was discovered close to the body of the deceased man. The off-duty officer, a 36-year-old man, has worked for the Memphis Police Department since 2009. It is unclear if the firearm used in the incident was issued by the police department.
Parents who are dealing with legal issues or personal problems related to the custody of their children may feel a wide range of emotions, from anger to anxiety and depression. On the other hand, parents who put their best foot forward in court and do everything they can to secure a healthy outcome for their children may be happy and feel a sense of relief when everything is said and done. For parents who are going through this, talking to an experienced attorney may be very beneficial.
