Back child support to affect driving privileges in one state

When a mother or father cannot pay child support, they may struggle with a myriad of problems. For starters, some are very stressed out and depressed about their inability to fulfill their obligations. In Belleville, and communities throughout the state of Illinois, parents may struggle with an inability to pay child support for any number of reasons. Sometimes, a recent job loss or medical issue may prevent them from paying the child support they owe on time.

A law that is scheduled to take effect in Texas could have a significant impact on parents who cannot fulfill their child support obligations. Residents of the state who have at least six months' worth of unpaid child support will lose their driving privileges.

In the state, people who have more than half a year of back child support will be unable to renew their vehicle registration. Moreover, they will be sent a notification 90 days prior to the expiration of their vehicle registration informing them of the changes and allowing them to prepare payment arrangements.

For those unable to pay child support, the consequences can be devastating. Aside from embarrassment in the community and anxiety, some are sentenced to prison and hit with steep financial penalties. However, some parents may be able to improve their circumstances by modifying their child support order, if their income has changed or they meet the financial requirements for some other reason, such as suffering from a serious medical issue. Some people who are going through this dilemma firsthand have benefited from consulting an experienced legal professional.
