An argument in favor of divorce

When Illinois parents are faced with the possibility of divorce, the first thing they often think about is how the decision will impact their children. As a result, some couples choose to stay married and continue to raise their children together in one household. Of course, the best interests of the child or children involved should always be top priority for parents as they approach issues like divorce. That is why some are voicing support for the decision to divorce over staying in an unsatisfying marriage.

Considering the impact that an unhappy marriage can have on family dynamics, the Huffington Post argues that continual conflicts between parents can create undue stress and resentment for children. That is why the option of divorce is viewed as an effective option to resolve conflict and create a more stable environment in many cases. Establishing a child custody arrangement that allows kids to spend quality time with each parent without being surrounded by marital discontent can improve their sense of security and peace.

Another benefit that divorce can offer children is the opportunity to see their parents happy with the changes to their own lives and lifestyles. Even as kids experience profound changes to their family environment, they may recognize that their parents are making positive decisions and actively engaging in conflict resolution and compromise. Allowing children to identify family problems and see how those conflicts are resolved can go a long way to teach them how to address conflict in a healthy and productive manner, while helping them recognize positive family qualities and interactions.
